DR. KEVIN CARMAN
EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT & PROVOST
UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, RENO (NV)
Kevin Carman was appointed as the ExecutiveVice President and Provost at the University of Nevada, Reno, on February 1, 2013. Dr. Carman oversees the university's twelve academic colleges or schools, the Graduate School, Extended Studies, University Libraries, and Information Technology.
Carman has contributed to improving academics by leading a comprehensive revision of the undergraduate core curriculum, founded a five-day academic bootcamp for incoming freshmen (NevadaFIT), establishing a UTeach replication program (NevadaTeach) for middle and secondary math and science teachers, launching online Master of Social Work and Community Health Science programs in partnership with Pearson/Embanet, and implementing a university-wide platform for student evaluation of teaching: “What Do You Think?” The University joined the Student Success Collaborative (Educational Advisory Board), creating a partnership dedicated to boosting student retention and success.
Dr. Carman previously served as dean of the College of Science at Louisiana State University. He earned his undergraduate degree in biology from McPherson College in 1982, and his master's and doctoral degrees in biological oceanography from Florida State University in 1984 and 1989.
